They’ve outlasted almost everyone from their era and now Getintothis’ Tom Konstantynowicz has the details of an end of year tour and Liverpool date from The Charlatans.

Mancunian rock & rollers The Charlatans have announced a string of live dates seeing them arrive at Liverpool O2 Academy for the penultimate night on December 18.

The nine-date stretch follows the band’s autumn-spanning European and US tours and symbolises how the Madchester scenesters have stood the test of time when other bands have long since fallen by the wayside.

Earlier this year saw them release their twelfth studio album, Modern Nature, which was their highest charting album since Wonderland in 2001 – reaching number 7 in the UK album charts. The sad passing of drummer Jon Brookes in August 2013 inspired Tim Burgess, Mark Collins, Martin Blunt and Tony Rogers to make one of their most uplifting records to date, in his memory.

The Charlatans achieved cult status with hits such as One to Another, The Only One I Know and album tracks such as Sproston Green – which they use to close every set amid jubilant scenes. Despite not getting the widespread recognition of The Stone Roses, Primal Scream or later, Oasis, they have maintained a dedicated, hardcore following.

More recently, front man Tim Burgess has been keeping busy releasing experimental, lo-fi and punk records via his own O Genesis label, including collaborations with the likes of Lambchop‘s Kurt Wagner and Factory Floor – whose drummer Gabriel Gurnsey is one of three to deputise on Modern Nature, along with Stephen Morris of New Order and The Verve‘s Pete Salisbury.

His Tim Peaks Diner is becoming a popular outpost at festivals up and down the country and he’s been given a nod for AIM‘s Indie Champion award – going up against our very own Getintothis editor in chief, Peter Guy.

Tickets for the tour are available from 9am next Friday (August 28), but there will be a pre-sale on Tuesday (August 25) for those who have signed up to the mailing list.
