Liverpool music gig guide: Tim Burgess, Katie Mac, Children of Zeus, Three From Above and more…

Tim Burgess

With Christmas and New Year a distant memory the focus is solely on gigs as Getintothis’ Simon Kirk has the dish on this week’s action.

So, another week rolls on and suddenly, the end of January is upon us.

It was looking like a really decent week on the gigs front until Dinosaur Jr frontman, J Mascis, sadly had to postpone his show at the Arts Club until May. From here at Getintothis, we wish you well, J.

That’s not to put a blight on the rest of the week (well, not too much, anyway).

There’s still plenty happening, not least the beginning of Independent Venue Week, which kicks off from Thursday, but we’ll have a bit more on that next week.

If you want to get ahead of the game, though, Getintothis’ Luke Halls has all the details here.

For now, though, for your eclectic mix of hip-hop, jazz, indie and singer-songwriters, try one of these on for size.

Children of Zeus

Children of Zeus: 24 Kitchen Street, Friday January 25

Before their tour of Germany, Manchester’s Children of Zeus will play 24 Kitchen Street.

Consisting of Konny Kon and Tyler Daley, Children of Zeus are in town on the back of The Winter Tape, their latest long-player released on Christmas Eve.

Support comes from KSR and No’ Fakin.

Katie Mac

Katie Mac: Sound Food and Drink, Friday January 25

Huyton’s Katie Mac plays her first show in Liverpool of the year in what will no doubt be the must see for this week.

Having released her Believe EP last year, many are hoping for more new music from Mac this year. Perhaps she may just play a few new cuts? You’ll have to be there to find out.

The CharlatansTim Burgess vists our fine town this week in a solo capacity, playing the intimate Jacaranda Records Phase One.

Tim will be also DJing after the gig.

Three From Above

Three From Above: 81 Renshaw Street, Wednesday January 23

Local garage rockers, Three From Above, are set to spread their infectious energy among the 81 Renshaw Street faithful.

If you like your music high-octane and with a political slant, then get along and catch these guys. Support comes from The Desert and Jetsam.

Bokanté: Jacaranda Records Phase One, Sunday January 27

In association with ParrJazz, 8-piece International musical ensemble, Bokanté, include Liverpool in their run of forthcoming European dates.

They described themselves as a “weird combination of West African music, Delta blues, and Led Zeppelin (with lyrics in Creole and French)”. That’s enough for us. We’ll see you there!

The best of the rest:
