Liverpool gig guide: Bishop Nehru, Getintothis Deep Cuts #18 plus win tickets to Fiesta Bombarda

Delving deep into this week’s Merseyside gig listings, GetintothisDavid Hall brings you the Liverpool gig guide lowdown once more.

Looking for something to do one night after work this week? Need a night out at the weekend? Look no further than the gig guide for the next seven days!

We’ve got you covered, whether your tastes are leftfield, or… well. Not mainstream exactly, as headline household names are in pretty short supply this week.

But if it’s the household names of the future you’re after, then look no further than this lot. We’re pretty sure you’ll be hearing a lot more from one or two of these acts in the coming months and years.

Plus, exciting news. We’ve got the return of our Deep Cuts night. Now on a much more good times-friendly Friday night, allow us to get your weekend off to a flying start. Further details are below, so read on!

Steven Page

Steven Page

Steven Page: Arts Club, Wednesday August 8

Show of hands who keeps up with the comings and goings of Barenaked Ladies? Would any of you put your hands back down if we qualified that we meant the band?

The One Week guys’ frontman Steven Page broke with the group in 2009 to do his solo thing. That’s still going on, and he calls at the Arts Club this week. Who knew.

Bishop Nehru

Bishop Nehru

Bishop Nehru: 24 Kitchen Street, Friday August 10

An exciting live prospect comes our way on Friday, in the form of MC Markel Scott, better known as Bishop Nehru. The New York rapper and producer takes to the Kitchen Street stage.

Now with five albums to his name plus collabs with luminaries like MF DOOM, it feels like Nehru is right on the cusp of being a major hip hop player. Find out if he’s still on the up in the Baltic Triangle this week.

Getintothis Deep Cuts #18 Housewarming Party: Phase One, Friday August 10

Moving from a midweek slot to Friday primetime, Liverpool mavericks a.P.A.t.T. headline the re-launch of Getintothis’ patented live evening Deep Cuts. For its Phase One bow, Tracky, Shards, The Gear, and Feral Wheel FKA Wild Eyes all appear, with the inimitable Purple Heart Parade as main support.

Vegan Caribbean street food will be on offer courtesy of the tasty folks over at Italfresh and Hail Hail Records DJs will keep the night moving briskly between acts. It’s just £4 per ticket, or an extra two quid on the door.  Check out the link below to grab yours now.

MOLD: The Jacaranda, Friday August 10

POSA, Wild Fruit Art Collective and Faniel Dord fill out the support slots for a MOLD show at the Jac this week. The Manchester band have been gathering momentum so far this year, with the four piece punctuating appearances at Manchester Psych Fest and Glasgow’s Freakender by supporting Warmduscher and embarking on their own tour.

New single Eyelids heralds a forthcoming EP, and is a squonky, anarchic Vic and Bob-style slice of jangle punk.

Fiesta Bombarda

Fiesta Bombarda

The much anticipated Fiesta Bombarda returns to the Invisible Wind Factory on September 21 and we have a pair of tickets to give away.

Liverpool’s favourite warehouse will be transformed into a paradise bringing together live music and the biggest club scene with exquisite visuals, bands, sets and stalls.

Prepare to be mesmerised, trapped in tropical decor and glowing in Fiesta face paints with music from Gentleman’s Dub Club, Levelz, The Soul Rays and more. There will also be a Boogaloo takeover on the Substation stage, alongside acts such as Down To Funk and Ghost, with more to be announced.

We’re offering one lucky reader a pair of tickets to this year’s Fiesta Bombarda, here’s how to get involved:

Upcoming gigs to keep an eye on:

Mogwai: Olympia, Thursday November 22

Seemingly forever touring doesn’t make a Mogwai gig any less special when it happens. That’s especially the case when they tip up right on your doorstep. Flexing its booking muscles after being welcomed into the Eventim fold, the Olympia hosts the Scottish post rockers this winter.

With over twenty years behind them, plus a soundtrack album for new movie KIN, featuring the previously released Donuts and new track We’re Not Done (complete with singing!). It’s bound to be a loud one.
