Liverpool legends a.P.A.t.T. and Manchester’s Purple Heart Parade head up an all-star billing as GetintothisDeep Cuts returns on Friday August 10 at new city centre venue.

So we needed a little break. It seems this year is taking it out of everyone – and Liverpool music in particular has taken stock in 2018.

That said, every week seems remarkably busy in the city that never sleeps – and that’s just how we like it too. Having taken a little summer sojourn, Getintothis’ Deep Cuts is back on Friday August 10 – in the new venue of Jacaranda Records Phase One – in the heart of Liverpool city centre on Seel Street.

We visited their opening night and saw artists road-testing the new venue during Liverpool Calling and loved the potential the hub has to offer; with it’s vinyl records, listening booths, outside garden and kitchen – and whopping stage superbly kitted out with some of the city’s best engineers in tow, it felt like the best new place to kick start a fresh chapter of new live music.

And it’s fair to say we’ve prepared a fine housewarming billing in keeping with our ethos: best new music.

Typifying what we’re about are Liverpool underground legends – a.P.A.t.T. Fearless, forever pushing where music can go and what it can do, headed up by their defacto leader Stephen Cole, the band have cemented their status as one of the most influential bands to come out of Merseyside in the last decade – by simply being indefinable and doing exactly what they wish to do.

An ever evolving and reshaping cast of musicians, a.P.A.t.T. infamously blend everything from metal, pop, funk, opera, boogie blues and rock and roll – and often all in one song. They’re almost like an open university musical laboratory melding time signatures and styles into new territories at will. To see them in a live setting is an unforgettable experience (see their commanding offering during last year’s Captain Beefheart festival for evidence) – and we’re chuffed to have them at Deep Cuts.

Joining them are Manchester’s Purple Heart Parade. No strangers to these shores the sonic futurists have played their own headline slots in the city as well as appearing at Liverpool International Festival of Psychedelia.

The band are set to unleash their expansive second EP Lonestar on September 7 through Club AC30, melding psychedelia, ’60s garage, shoegaze and rock and roll suiting fans of Spiritualized, Black Angels and Stone Roses.  Lead single Mission Hills is about emotional distance in a relationship but also the loss of a close friend, a victim of the tragic Manchester Arena attack.

One of the region’s much-loved bands, The Wild Eyes, are back under the new name Feral Wheel. Guided by front man, Huw Roberts, the new outfit retain the impassioned fury of their previous guise but lend tight Krautrock grooves to an altogether different beast. It’s great to have them back.

Two of Liverpool’s most promising new bands are also on the bill. The Gear bring soaring rock and roll with deft cyclonic rhythmic melodies while fast-rising Shards fuse chiming dream pop and irresistible stirring romantic pop.

Completing the bill is TRACKY. One of the city’s brightest new pop hopes, Michael Poynton is a one-man conveyor belt of pop gems. His debut gig was at Deep Cuts in Spring and since then he’s been lent the back of national press and radio with adidas and Everton FC lending their weight to his brand of The Streets meets post-punk rock racket with instantly catchy choruses and lyricism about modern life hysteria and the comedowns that inevitably follow.

The bill is completed by our friends at Hail Hail Records who’s delectable taste has been a favourite of ours at previous Deep Cuts so they’re back to man the decks at Jacaranda Records Phase One.

  • Deep Cuts at Jacaranda Records Phase One is on Friday August 10, 7pm until 1am with a.P.A.t.T. Purple Heart Parade, Feral Wheel, TRACKY, Shards and The Gear. Tickets here.
