Jeffrey Lewis returns to Liverpool as part of huge UK tour

Cult indie singer songwriter and comics artist Jeffrey Lewis stops off in Liverpool on his UK tour in April, as Getintothis’ Will Neville reports.

New Yorker Jeffrey Lewis is visiting the UK in March and April, including a stop-off in Liverpool (thanks to Harvest Sun) at Leaf on April 4.

The date will be his first since wowing the Buyers Club crowd in August 2016 with his literate, often very funny songs. Among the acts he has name-checked in his tracks are The Fall and Will Oldham, who together provide an idea as to his sound.

The lo-fi legend has often been tagged with the anti-folk and slacker labels. The latter is particularly misplaced given his prodigious output of roughly one record per year over the past two decades, although his last album of new songs was 2015’s Manhattan, so one is long overdue.

His next release is due to be a set of covers of songs written by Tuli Kupferberg of fabled 60s’ counter-culturalists The Fugs, recorded with ex-Fug Peter Stampfel and the Deposit Returners band. However, no release date has yet been set for this.

He is backed on this tour by Los Bolts, who are also credited as his backing band on recent records and tours.
