The politically active singer-songwriter drops by Liverpool for gigs and book signings, Getintothis’ Shaun Ponsonby has the lowdown.

Billy Bragg is coming to Liverpool’s Philharmonic Hall as part of his upcoming UK tour.

As one of Britain’s most political songwriters of the last 30 years, and a consistent voice of the left, Bragg will no doubt be reflecting on these issues during the shows. During the tour, titled Bridges Not Walls, he will strap on his electric guitar and perform songs from throughout his career.

Also present will be pertinent covers by his heroes and mentors and some freshly minted songs about the state of the world.

As Bragg himself has said; “Music can’t change the world, but it does have the power to bring people together. In such divisive times, it seems a good place to start.”

Bragg will also be conducting a conversation and signing his new book Roots, Radicals and Rockers – How Skiffle Changed the World at Waterstone’s, Liverpool One on Monday July 3.

The book examines the skiffle movement of the 50s and 60s, tracing it’s roots in trad-jazz, it’s heyday with Lonnie Donnegan and it’s influence on British Invasion bands such as The Who, The Kinks and even The Beatles.
