I See Rivers

A handful of familiar names plus a bunch of exciting new talent are on show at this year’s contest, as GetintothisCraig MacDonald delves in.

Getintothis championed acts including acoustic folksters I See Rivers and next-gen popstar Pixey feature on the longlist for Glastonbury Festival’s Emerging Talent Contest.

The festival organisers run the prestigious contest every year, with the aim of finding the best in emerging talent and offering a chance to see their name on the hallowed Glastonbury billing.

Last year’s contest saw local scuzz-poppers She Drew the Gun romp to victory, which has catapulted them to nationwide headline tours and a forthcoming album release in March 2017.

The PRS for Music Foundation supported nominees were hand picked by a forty-strong judging panel of online music writers, narrowing thousands of acts down to a longlist of just 120.

After a further whittling down to a shortlist of eight, a live finals in April offers one act the chance of a slot on one of the Glastonbury stages plus a £5,000 PRS for Music Foundation Talent Development prize. Two runners-up will also each be awarded a £2,500 PRS for Music Foundation Talent Development prize.

Elsewhere on the longlist we find Psych Fest favourites Spectres, Tigerclub who rocked our world at a Liverpool all-dayer headlined by The Fall recently and Getintothis‘ much-loved Palm Honey.

A significant prize for all aspiring headliners, previous entrants to the competition have included StornowayThe Subways and Scouting for Girls, all of whom went on to major record deals.

With False Advertising, Alice Nancy, M60 and many others all vying for this years prize, plenty will be hoping to bag a place on this years lineup at Worthy Farm.

This year’s Glastonbury Festival takes place from June 21-25. Tickets have (obviously) already sold out, but there’s still plenty of festival action closer to home to get stuck into. In the meantime, check out all the acts on this years list with the playlist below.
