Sound City have announced their independent label market plus more speakers, Getintothis Todd Sockface reports.

Sound City have announced a raft of record label bosses plus industry experts to align with their marketplace at this year’s festival.

The Indie Label Market, introduced last year, will showcase independent record labels including Bella Union, 4AD, Domino and Modern Sky alongside bosses Simon Raymonde (CEO, Bella Union), Li Hui Shen (CEO Modern Sky Entertainment) and Wally Van Middendorp (Senior Vice President, International, Roadrunner Records).

Throughout the day TED-style talks will engage delegates on key topics affecting today’s industry. Matt Parsons, founder of Ditto Music (read our Ditto feature here), Creation Records founder Alan McGee will be among the speakers.

BJM play Liverpool, Threshold review plus X&Y Festival headliner announced

Alan McGee said: “I’m launching Musicians Against Homelessness, a campaign which we hope will raise a lot of money for Crisis and at the same time, give lots of new artists the chance to play and to shine.

Simon Parkes, who famously bought Brixton Academy for £1, will provide an insight on why it’s now more than important than ever to support independent venues.

A VIP Delegates Party at Constellations will feature GIT Award 2016 nominees Clean Cut Kid, Samm Henshaw, Mahalia and Blick Bassy before the festival kicks off with the main bill on Saturday and Sunday May 28-29.

Sound City organisers have revealed historic ship Kathleen & May (above) will be present at this year’s festival featuring secret gigs, DJs, food and cocktails. The ship follows on from last year’s Kaskelot which hosted a number of artists from Merseyside and further afield plus Anfield’s Homebaked bakery.
