Cavalry: Everything

Ever on the up, heart-rending fivesome Cavalry have marked their return with a new double A-side out on Fierce Panda Records, Getintothis’ Patrick Clarke takes a listen to their latest.

It’s been a while since we heard from Cavalry on record, but in the months since last year’s impeccable single Soak there’s a sense the group have really hit their stride, their emotive, deftly-crafted guitar pop shifting up a notch to garner the first flames of the mass following that’s clearly coming their way.

With a smattering of well-recieved live shows and national airplay, their latest double A-side Everything/Lucerne, released through Fierce Panda is, if nothing else, a mark of their growing confidence.

Forever expansive and honest in their sound, Everything has the assurance to take things slow, their trademark swells of layered, heart-on-sleeve texture given acres of breathing room, less urgency needed as the band’s musicianship speaks for itself.

Lucerne, meanwhile, which is available soon, reminds us the band have lost none of their guitar-led grit. Bedecked in their trademark rushes of pressing acoustic guitars and countering quiet, its concluding crescendo perhaps the best example yet of what the band do so well.
