Former Liverpool student picks up BRITs nomination alongside Jack Garrett and Izzy Bizu, Getintothis’ David Hall reports on the fast-rising star.
Past BRITS Critics Choice winners are a practical who’s who of UK chart successes. Not just on sovereign shores either, but internationally; Florence and the Machine, James Bay, Emeli Sandé. You may have heard of these people, and of Adele, who clinched Critics Choice in 2008. Basically, it’s a pretty big deal.
Her piano-led ballad Grow was covered by us over the summer in On Track, and has since gone on to seep into the public conscious after its use in a current high-profile Amazon ad.
Frances said: “It’s such a huge honour to be nominated for the Critics’ Choice award.
“I’ve followed the BRITs my whole life, but never thought I’d be lucky enough to be nominated.”
Since graduating from LIPA, Frances has played Liverpool’s Arts Club and toured the country as part of the Communion New Faces tour – an industry showcase highlighting the finest new musicians in the UK.
Reflecting on previous BRITs Critics Choice winners including Emeli Sandé and Tom Odell, Frances, added: “It’s amazing to be a part of something that has included so many of my idols and musical inspirations. It’s an amazing feeling.”
Berkshire-born, Liverpool-based singer-songwriter Frances has been nominated alongside London’s Izzy Bizu and electro-influenced soul artist Jack Garrett. All have major label albums for us to look forward to in the new year, with Frances’ Borrowed Time dropping in May.
The BRITs Critics Choice Award 2016 winner is certainly a tough one to call then, but we’re tipping Frances for the win. With feathers already adorning her cap including national radio airplay, a support slot for another former Critics’ Choice Sam Smith and of course that advert, she has a strong chance of going on from a prestigious nomination to a lucrative win.
The 2016 Critics’ Choice Award winner will be announced on Friday November 27.
The BRIT Awards 2016 takes place on Wednesday February 24, 2016 at London’s O2 Arena and will be broadcast live on ITV with Ant & Dec returning as hosts.
