Ahead of their homecoming show at East Village Arts Club in support of their new EP, Getintothis’ Craig MacDonald relishes the return of ETCHES.

Psychedelic post-rock quintet ETCHES will be gracing their spiritual home when they descend upon East Village Arts Club on October 1 in one of only two dates to launch their new EP. The eagerly awaited Wall Of Sleep drops on November 6 via Fierce Panda and will feature latest cuts Do Nothing and The Great Void.

On Do Nothing, the reverb heavy guitars create a bewildering sound that builds and builds. The fascinating mixture swirls together with a mesmerizing vocal to create a hurricane of noise in a relentless assault on your senses. The melodic tone develops to breaking point in breathtaking affect.

In stark contrast, The Great Void is a lo-fi stripped back affair that verges upon folk at points. The graceful number sees the five piece laid bare in a delicate finger-picked progressive working. It is another testament to the diversity and evolution that ETCHES continue to show in their craft. They continue to blend in unique recipes of contrasting arrangements that challenge but entice in equal measure.

Their five track EP Wall Of Sleep will feature both songs and has been produced by James Bragg, the man behind fellow psych lovers Gengahr‘s debut album A Dream Outside. Support on the group’s homecoming night comes in the form of two stellar acts, Mother and Venus Demilo, in what should be a majestic night of music.
